Environmental Policy


Statement of purpose


The museum aims to advance the education of the public by preserving and displaying artefacts and other chattels of local and historic interest and importance to Market Lavington and the surrounding area, and continues to develop and enlarge the same in an ongoing manner for the benefit of both the present and future generations.



Market Lavington Museumís commitment is to provide a sustainable service and to minimise the environmental impacts of our operations.


To meet our environmental commitment we will (for example)


         Meet and, where possible, exceed all current and future European and national environmental legislative and regulatory requirements.

         Adopt best operational practices to reduce environmental impacts of our museumís activities and policies.

         Measure and take action to reduce the carbon footprint of our activities and ensure our buildings and services are able to adapt to climate change.

         Monitor, manage and minimise our museumís use of energy and water.

         Minimise the environmental impact of travelling between home and our venues an on our museumís business.

         Minimise the amount of waste produced by our museum and encourage greater reuse and recycling.

         Ensure environmental, including climate change, criteria are taken into account in the procurement of goods and services.

         Consider environmental factors in our museumís decisions and activities including giving due consideration to environmental issues and energy performance in the design,refurbishment, and use of our buildings.

         Develop and train our employees to conduct their activities in an environmentally responsible manner.



To ensure we meet our commitments, we undertake to periodically monitor and review our environmental performance and take corrective action where necessary.


This policy will be reviewed annually by Curator, Rog Frost each February.
