A block and tackle
A block and tackle is a pulley system used for lifting heavy loads.
This one, hanging in the trades room at Market Lavington Museum, dates from about 1890. (The metal handle in the centre of the picture is part of a pump displayed next to the block and tackle and is not part of the pulley system.)
Our block and tackle was came from Gye’s Yard on White Street in Market Lavington and was used in conjunction with the large bellows, dating from 1900. (See Blow the fire, blacksmith.)
