A very local jigsaw
A recent acquisition for Market Lavington Museum is this jigsaw.
The church in the picture is St Mary’s in Market Lavington and our museum is just across the churchyard from where the helicopter has landed. The jigsaw is dated 2008. At the time the photograph was taken, the Wiltshire Police shared the helicopter with the Great Western Ambulance service and it was crewed by a pilot, an observer and a paramedic.
By 2014, the police unit merged with the National Police Air Service and Wiltshire Air Ambulance became a charity with its own helicopter, based in Devizes at first and in Melksham since 2018.
We hope to display the jigsaw in the museum when we re-open (hopefully for the 2021 season, subject to due consideration of the Covid 19 situation). Making the jigsaw is proving rather a challenge! The large areas of grass and sky are difficult to piece together correctly. Time will tell whether the puzzle goes on display made up or in its box but, either way, we are pleased to have it in our collection of local history artefacts.
