Market Lavington Museum

A Victorian button hook

We have already seen A pen knife/button hook, which we have at Market Lavington Museum. That post explains why button hooks were needed and how they were used.

We do have another button hook in the museum, with just a single purpose and not just an extra tool on a penknife.

Dating from the 1870s, it is an iron button hook with a slightly damaged bone handle. It is just 9 cm long and was used by the Gye family in Market Lavington.
