An 1887 jubilee chair plaque
In 1837, the young Queen Victoria came to the throne so, in 1887, her long reign was celebrated with Golden Jubilee events and projects.
In Market Lavington we have a medallion in the museum (see Golden Jubilee medallion) and we know that a tree was planted in the village (see The Jubilee Tree).
The village had a jubilee committee, so there were probably various social events arranged in 1887. Presumably monies were raised and we know that a chair was purchased and loaned out to the poor. A plaque was screwed onto the chair and we have the plaque in the museum.
