Carts for sale

We have just seen an advertisement for wheelwrighting supplies, such as might have been used by Charlie Burnett, the wheelwright for the Gye family on Market Lavington’s White Street.

Along with that leaflet, we were given another in the 1980s, which had been kept by the Gye family since the early 20th century. This one was advertising carts made by the Eddington Iron and Wagon Works in Hungerford. We don’t know why our local business kept these pages, but they remind us of the sorts of horse drawn vehicles in use on the streets and farms at that time, for which Charlie Burnett might have made replacement wheels. The prices for most of these carts was around £20.
