Market Lavington Museum

Civil Defence

The Civil Defence Corps was set up in 1949 to help in major emergencies. (It was disbanded in 1968.)

There was a particular fear of nuclear attack and we have already seen our museum copies of their leaflets in Refuge from nuclear fallout and Surviving a nuclear attack. We also have some badges and items of uniform that belonged to a Market Lavington lady.

We have several of these badges.

There are a couple of metal badges too, designed to be worn in a button hole, and a pair of yellow armbands.

We will look at some more of this collection next time.
