Clothing at Market Lavington Museum
We have many items of clothing in Market Lavington Museum – and too little space to have all that much of it on display. If you visit the museum (Saturday, Sunday, Wednesday and bank holiday afternoons between 2.30 and 4.30 – May to October, or by appointment) and have a particular interest please ask our stewards who will be able to find items that we have in store.
To illustrate clothing, I have chosen an item with a degree of poignancy for this was a dress worn by our founder and long time curator, Peggy, who died this week. The dress is made of white lawn, and was worn by Peggy in 1921, the year of her birth. It reflects the fashion in baby clothes of that time, far removed from today’s colourful and convenient baby garments.
