Elisha family sympathy cards

Many current residents of Market Lavington will recognise the name Bill Elisha from the Elisha playing field on Drove Lane and others will have known of his wife, long time local school teacher, Mrs May Elisha. Going back a generation, William George Elisha was the father of Bill and this link will take you to a blog about this tailor in the village and his family.

At Market Lavington Museum, we have two black bordered sympathy cards. Such mourning stationery was used to inform people of a death, for funeral arrangements and so on. Our records state that one of these was the style used in memory of William George Elisha’s widow Kate, who died in 1910, before the family moved to Market Lavington. The other was in memory of William George himself, who died in 1924. Neither of these two have been written on.
