Fashionable babies and toddlers

Recently we had a look at Sarah Gye’s photo album, which she was given in 1897. Amongst the unlabelled pictures are several of small children. Nowadays we tend to dress them for comfort and would be unlikely to choose the attire worn by these little people, even for studio photographs.

An interesting line in millinery.

A winter coat. Obviously we can’t tell its colour, but it looks impracticably pale to keep clean.

Another impractical outfit, but these pictures provide an interesting glimpse at the fashions at the turn of the century.
