Hair tidies, maybe
We have seen this pretty container before (see A pleasing glass jar) and believe it was probably an Edwardian hair tidy. Hair from a brush, comb or pillow could be collected in it and stored for possible use later in a net as the foundation for a bun.
At Market Lavington Museum, we have a similar sized container, whose purpose also requires a little guesswork.
This little wooden box has a removable lid and could be hung up by its cord strap. We think it is probably late Victorian or Edwardian and imagine it may have been used as a container on a dressing table for collecting hair or holding hair pins or similar items.
