His and Hers
One of the displays we’ve had for a couple of years at Market Lavington Museum is called His and Hers. It features an assortment of personal items, most of which would have seemed commonplace at the time they were in regular use. Fortunately, they were not thrown out as obsolete, but were donated to the museum, where we can now view them as evidence of change over the decades.
For instance, most men probably don’t shave with a cut throat razor nowadays and neither do they use the mid twentieth century Rolls razor with a blade honing device built into its case. The ladies’ hat pins of the 1950s and before, are no longer must have possessions.
The gadgets we use daily and take for granted will eventually be superseded and, hopefully, someone will donate them to the museum.
