John Baker’s Loyal Volunteers’ uniform
We have seen this uniform before, being worn by John Baker’s second daughter, Margaret.
Our blog post Margaret Baker’s Staffordshire Dog has more information about this young lady from the whitesmith’s family, who dressed up in her father’s uniform for a photo. You can see the whole family, parents and the five children, in The Baker family in 1886.
The uniform really belonged to John Baker, seen wearing it here along with his many sharpshooting trophies.
Both these pictures and many other photos and paintings will be on show in our Portraits from the Past display when the museum reopens later this year after closures due to the Covid pandemic and essential building work.
