The Ordnance Survey began in Wiltshire in the early years of the nineteenth century. We have large and small-scale maps of the Lavington area that cover much of the nineteenth and the twentieth centuries and on into the twenty first century.

We have recently been given a one inch to the mile map which dates from 1948 which helps to plug a gap in the collection.

 These older maps can help local historians and family researchers to identify when houses were built or significantly altered. Maps at scales like 25 inches to the mile are particularly useful and we hold several at Market Lavington Museum.

Our maps are mostly kept in store but if you visit the museum (May to October on Saturday, Sunday, Wednesday and Bank Holiday afternoons from 2.30 to 4.30) our helpful stewards will find items for you.
