Recently we looked at a hand made camisole and knickers from the 1930s, but we also have mid 20th century factory made underwear in our collection at Market Lavington Museum.
This tan coloured pair of WX sized knickers is made from Bri-nylon. It has a Wolsey Vanity Fair label and probably dates from the 1950s.
Wolsey also made our artificial silk camisole and knickers, dating from the 1940s or 50s. The label says Wolsey La France, size 36.
The narrow straps are attached to a lacy upper section.
The matching knickers are somewhat plainer.
What a contrast can be made between these mid 20th century undergarments and the commodious, white cotton 19th century bloomers in our collection. (See The Weekly Wash at Market Lavington Museum.)
