Market Lavington Museum

Museum building update

In April 2021, our blog post Market Lavington Museum under wraps explained that the early Victorian cottage that houses our museum collection was feeling its age and required some strengthening work. We are pleased to say that this has now been done and we are about to begin on a lengthy process of redecorating and changing the use of some of the rooms. This will involve a considerable amount of work as we envisage the storeroom being relocated downstairs and the trades room artefacts being moved to a different room.

Regrettably, it will be quite a long time before we can welcome visitors back to the museum, so here are some photographs, showing the stage we have reached.

Steel girders are now in place to give more support to the upstairs floor and these have been boxed in with a wooden surround.

We look forward to the time when all is spick and span, with our treasured items of local historical interest back on display. Meanwhile, we will continue to bring our museum collection and local history to you digitally until we can welcome visitors in person once more.
