Warming a child’s bed

We have seen two of Market Lavington Museum’s stoneware hot water bottles in A Hot Water Bottle and Another hot water bottle, but we have a third one too.

This smaller one is a child’s hot water bottle and dates from about 1910.

It is smaller in all dimensions than the adult one, but was, no doubt, welcomed by a youngster in the days when many bedrooms were unheated and the bedding would have been cold until the child had warmed it up.
