Agriculture
As different as chalk and cheese
Much of Market Lavington and Easterton’s agricultural history has been influenced by geology. The parishes spanned greensand in the north, suited to market gardening and cattle grazing, clay in the centre, which was less agricultural but provided the raw material for local brickmaking and was where the shops and homes were built and chalk on the uplands of Salisbury Plain, where sheep grazed and barley was grown for the malt industry in the village.
